What
are the rules for broadcast students?
Equipment
1. No food or drinks are
allowed in the edit bay, control room, or studio.
2. Camera equipment must remain at room temperature. Do not
leave equipment in your care overnight or in unheated areas. If condensation
builds up in the camera, your tapes could be ruined.
3. All camera equipment must be returned to the
check in/check out office immediately after you return
from each assignment. Never leave cameras lying around the
studio.
4. No cameras will be left
unattended in the newsroom at any time.
5. Make sure cameras are turned off and dead batteries are returned
to the charger each time you check in equipment after an assignment. Cameras
that are left on could overheat, causing internal damage.
6. Store tripods in a horizontal position. Never
leave them standing or leaning against a wall.
Parking
1. Cars parked in
the loading/unloading area of the Blossom Street lot must
display an
8 1/2 x 11- inch sign
reading "Carolina News" in the front window.
2. Never block handicapped access to the sidewalk
in front of the Blossom Street entrance.
3. This is not all-day parking. It is to be used only for loading
and unloading equipment.
Studio
1. Clean up
after yourself throughout the day and don't leave candy
wrappers, empty soda cans or other trash lying around.
The studio should be presentable to visitors at all times.
2. Make sure the studio is clean at the end of
the day. Throw away papers and other trash before you leave.
Your mother doesn't work here.
What
do I do if my camera stops operating?
If your camera stops operating
please contact Barry Lewis at
777-8410 or Brian Guy at
777-5894. If you have an emergency
when the office is closed, please page Barry at 954-1496.
What kind of tapes should I use?
It is recommended that you remember to always
use Sony DVCam tapes.
What will happen if I don't turn my equipment
in on time?
Please return equipment
on time because someone may be waiting to use the camera
set; not to mention your grade may be affected.
How many minutes can I tape from a 60 minute DV
tape?
You can tape approximately 42 minutes.
How can I get 60 minutes to cover a program?
We can set up the camera in mini DV mode and you will
get 60 minutes. You will also lose some quality. Please do
not try and make the change yourself.
I have my camera plugged in the computer but it will not
download.
Most of the time you have to restart the computer. If you plug
the camera in after the computer has been turned on it will
not look for it.
Do
I really have to turn my equipment in by the "due
date"?
Yes; because someone may have signed up for it and could be
waiting.
What will happen if I return the equipment late?
We will turn in a copy of the sign-out sheet to your instructor.
This could affect your final grade if it happens repeatedly.
If I give my equipment to a friend or project partner, am
I still responsible?
Yes. Whoever has checked the equipment out is ultimately responsible.
