Allyson Bird - Internship
Diary
Oct. 19:
The heart of The Politics & Journalism Semester is the seminar series. Twice
a week we hear from professionals over bagels and coffee in a roundtable
setting.
Our seminar today was with Jonathan Rauch, National Journal
columnist and author of Government's End.
His lecture, like
the book, was about how interest groups clutter politics,
because policy is easier to make than to cancel. I was
happy to learn that Rauch got his start in journalism with
The
Winston-Salem Journal, a Media General publication. And
he found his way into the National Journal by working as
an
intern.
Our program director gave us copies of the most recent
American Journalism Review today. Even a month and a half
into it, it was pretty surreal seeing my picture in an ad
for The Politcs & Journalism Semester.
