
Mike Quinn
Mike Quinn has been a member of the College’s adjunct faculty
since 1992 and has taught several public relations and writing courses
over the years. He also has conducted workshops for the College’s
continuing education opportunities program as well as the AMBER Alert
project at Newsplex, a newsroom of the future. Currently, he teaches
public relations writing.
Quinn has more than 35 years experience in military and government
public relations. Most recently he served as a communications director
for the Internal Revenue Service where he managed a nationwide staff
of more than 50 public relations employees. He retired from the U.S.
Army Reserve in 2002 after serving for more than three decades in
various assignments in military public affairs in North and South
Carolina and four years of active duty in the U.S. Navy.
Quinn also is a partner in the media consulting firm of Norris & Quinn,
a company that provides media consulting, video production and journalism
training services from locations in Cincinnati, Ohio and Columbia,
S.C. Since 1987 Norris & Quinn has trained numerous governmental,
military and private industry spokespersons, published numerous freelance
articles and produced video programming.
He holds a masters degree in mass communications from the University
of South Carolina and earned a bachelor of arts degree in advertising
and public relations, also from the University of South Carolina.
He also has been trained at Northwestern University’s Medill
School of Journalism in advanced communication management.
Mike is a former member of the Federal Executive Council in Columbia
, the IRS Communications Professional Development Board in Washington,
D.C. and currently serves on the board of directors for Fairfield
Memorial Hospital and president of the Fairfield Memorial Hospital Foundation in Winnsboro. He also has been involved in various
other civic, education and church organizations throughout his career.
He is married and has two grown children.
