
Rick Peterson

Electronic and Print Journalism Sequence
M.S., Northwestern University
Peterson is co-director of the "Carolina News" television
program, which is seen on campus cable and Time Warner Cable in northeast
Columbia. Seniors in the electronic journalism senior semester class
produce the program. He also teaches other broadcast news related
courses. He joined the School faculty in 1997.
In addition to his work at USC, Rick has been working as a freelance
writer for the national news desk at NBC News Channel in Charlotte,
North Carolina, since 1999. His stories are sent for use to
all NBC stations and affiliates across the nation, MSNBC, Telemundo,
and television networks around the world. He also freelances
as a Web content producer for a network project involving NBC stations
across the nation. He freelanced as a producer and in-house
reporter for All News Channel in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from 1995-97. He
was a reporter for KOTV and KJRH in Tulsa, Oklahoma, from 1982-1991. And
he was an anchor/reporter for KODE in Joplin, Missouri, from 1981-1982.
Rick has been nominated for two regional Emmy awards and has won
awards from United Press International and the Society of Professional
Journalists.
