Debbie Garris
Administrative Assistant to the
Director of the School of Journalism
and Mass
Communications
Originally from Virginia, Debbie Garris has lived in South Carolina
since 1968 when her father accepted a transfer with DuPont to Camden,
S.C. As this move was the summer before her senior year in
high school, she arrived in South Carolina kicking and screaming,
but after 34 years has decided to stay.
Garris began her college education at Radford College, Radford,
Va. in 1969 and finished at USC in 1972. She continues to take courses
at the University whenever she can, as well as local equine courses.
While taking a photojournalism class in 1998, Garris had the opportunity
to take pictures at the Carolina Cup steeplechase race in Camden,
SC, and became hooked. For the last five years, she has had the opportunity
to cover races in Ga., N.C., S.C., and Va., horse shows in Va., S.C.
and Fla., and private shoots at local horse farms.
She has been published in Steeplechase Times, Careers in the
Horse Industry, National Steeplechase Annual, National Directory
for Andalusians, and various web sites. Garris has also done
photography for private individuals, conventions, and luncheons,
etc., as well as various school events. |
