Bonnie Drewniany teaches Creative Strategy, Advanced Creative Strategy,
Advertising Campaigns, and an Honors College seminar course on Super
Bowl Advertising. She has won several awards for teaching, including
the Mungo Award and multiple Mortar Board Awards. Prior to joining
USC, Drewniany was a visiting professor at Syracuse University.
Drewniany’s research interests include the creative tactics
and trends found in Super Bowl advertising. Each year she evaluates
the effectiveness of Super Bowl commercials and publishes the results.
Her findings have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the Chicago
Tribune, and National Public Radio. She has led two
research symposiums on the impact of Super Bowl commercials on society,
which attracted scholars from as far as Egypt and Scotland. She has
made numerous presentations on Super Bowl advertising to professional
advertising clubs and academic conferences.
Drewniany is co-author of two books: Creative Strategy
in Advertising (with A. Jerome Jewler) and Advertising
and the Mature Market (with William Ryan). She serves on the
National Advertising Review Board, the American Advertising Federation
National Academic Committee, is the education chair of the AAF
Third District (representing universities and colleges in North
Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia), and is an honorary lifetime
board member of AAF of the Midlands. She recently received the
Silver Medal Award from AAF of the Midlands, the highest award
an advertising chapter can bestow on a member in its community.
Prior to teaching, Drewniany was senior advertising copy director
with the R.H. Macy Corporation and did freelance work for F.A.O.
Schwarz, Fortunoff’s, and other major retailers.
