For the second time in less than a year, Fairfield County is mourning the death of a young child. A Winnsboro man has been charged with the death of his eight-month-old daughter.

Jarrid Dewese, 18, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with homocide by child abuse.

Investigators were called to the family's home on February 16th, where they found Javon Dewese dead.

Fairfield County Investigator Keith Lewis says officials found marks on the child's head, "During the autopsy the pathologist found several marks to give the appearance of marks similar to knuckles."

According to a MUSC study 12 percent of all American children die because of  child abuse. Forty-five percent of the homicides were by head trauma. And the MUSC study shows that the majority of the child homicide victims were male and black, and 46 percent were less than a year old.

Dewese's trial has been scheduled for May.
