Job Title: Public Relations & Development Intern
Department: Development & Communications
Reports to: Events Specialist
Status: Unpaid internship
Description
The Public Relations & Development Intern will receive an overview of the way a professional Development & Communications Department works in an established non-profit organization. The department's areas of responsibility include communications, marketing, media outreach, public relations, fundraising, and special promotions and events. The intern will work with communications and fundraising staff on assigned projects.
The job description below is an indicator of the type of experience you might expect from this internship. Not all activities are guaranteed; timing and length of the internship will dictate a prioritization of functions.
Typical Duties
• Draft and submit press releases.
• Assist in planning and implementation of a public awareness campaign.
• Assist with the dissemination of promotional materials for Memory Walk, an annual fundraiser.
• Contact former and potential sponsors regarding corporate support of the Memory Walk.
• Assist with entry of Memory Walk registration information into online Constituent Relationship Management System
• Accompany staff to meetings and networking functions to represent the Association.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Proficiency with a wide array of software including Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel and Internet Explorer. Familiarity with graphic design software, such as Adobe Photoshop and InDesign also desirable
• Self-motivation with the ability to work independently
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities
• Desire to contribute to a fun, collaborative team for an important cause
