Demedis wins top
scholarship for Greek Americans
Stephen Demedis
of Huntingtown, Md., won the Peter Agris Memorial Scholarship,
a prominent scholarship for Greek Americans awarded by the
Alpha Omega Council.
Demedis, a junior print-journalism major
in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, was
awarded the $5,000 scholarship at the AOC's annual banquet,
held May 6 in Boston, Mass.
Demedis, a student in USC's prestigious South Carolina Honors
College, is a McKissick scholar, a recipient of a School
of Journalism and Mass Communications scholarship and is
a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha national honor society.
Demedis
has written for TheCarolina Reporter, the
journalism school's newspaper, and has studied abroad in
Australia. He currently is completing an internship in
communications at the Marriott Corporation headquarters.
The Peter Agris Memorial Scholarship honors the AOC's late
founder who was an accomplished journalist and philanthropist.
The scholarship is awarded annually to aspiring journalists
of Hellenic ancestry who demonstrate outstanding academic
performance and leadership in school, community and church.
