SAF announces winners in student advertising competition
The Student Advertising Federation (SAF) announced
the winners of the the 9th Annual J. Jerome Jewler Student
Ad Awards at a reception on May 1.
Advertising
major Jessica Stanley won Best of Show and the $500 grand
prize for her Domestic Violence campaign.
Zachary Sykes, a senior visual communications major, won
a Gold Award for his campaign for
Via
Miner. Megan Hughes and Erin Waldron also won a Gold
Award for their campaign for Trustex
Condoms. The Gold Award
winners received a $100 prize.
Silver
Awards were given to Anne Almers for her Metropolitan
Transportation Authority campaign and Joe Murray for
his Coca-Cola campaign.
The Silver Award winners received a $75 prize. Almers also
won an Addy Award from the Columbia Ad Club for her campaign.
The Bronze Awards went to visual communications senior Shana
Bertetto for her campaigns for Stella
Artois and Volkswagen and
Jordan Smith, an advertising major, for her Jordan campaign.
The Bronze Award winners received a $50 prize.
Judges for the 2007 competition were Brian Rish, freelance
producer, Alanna Ritchie, South Carolina Newspaper Network,
and Shawn Rourk, public information coordinator for the College
of Mass Communications and Information Studies.
The annual competition is sponsored by the Student Advertising
Federation, the local student chapter of the American Advertising
Federation, and endowed by Professor Bonnie Drewniany in
honor of Distinguished Professor Emeritus Jewler.
During
the Ad Show, students were also recognized for their scholastic
achievements. The following students were inducted into
Alpha Delta Sigma the national advertising honorary society:
Anne Almers, Kelsi Dunlap, Kathryn Fitzgerald, Mary Rachel
Freeman, Jessica Gorski, Paige Hopewell, Joe Murray, Caitlin
Noll, Anna Renninger, Jessica Stanley,
Erin Waldron, Megan Wiedenhaefer, Keelan Young and Randa
Zakhour. Alpha Delta Sigma recognizes
undergraduate students who have a
minimum of a 3.25 overall GPA.
SAF also recognized students who won local,
regional and national awards, internships and scholarships.
The AAF Advertising Competition Team placed fourth in the
AAF Third District Competition for their innovative integrated
communications campaign for Coca-Cola. The following students
made up the 16-member team: Anne Almers, Marianne Brown,
Megan Eunpu, Kathryn Fitzgerald, Mary Rachel Freeman, Will
Frierson, Jessica Gorski, Paige Hopewell, Megan Lubniewski,
Joe Murray, Caitlin Noll, Alex Rogers, Jessica Stanley, Erin
Waldron, Megan Wiedenhaefer and Keelan Young.
Anne Almers, Caitlin Chandler, Laura Cook and Kristen Ponger
were honored for winning Addy Awards from the Columbia Ad
Club. The Addy Awards honor creative excellence.
The AAF Most Promising Minority Students Award went to William
Frierson and Timothy Frisby. This national advertising industry
awards program recognizes outstanding minority students who
demonstrate exceptional leadership skills and a strong academic
record.
Megan
Wiedenhaefer was honored for being selected for the AAF Vance
Stickell Internship. This internship, named for the late
executive vice president of marketing for the Los
Angles Times, is one of the nation's most competitive
internships. Wiedenhaefer was also awarded the Columbia Ad
Club Clyde Ellisor Scholarship. This scholarship, named after
the former president of the Columbia Advertising Club is
awarded to a resident of South Carolina who is a rising senior
majoring in the advertising and public relations sequence.
The Columbia Ad Club also awarded Megan Lubniewski with
the Albert Scroggins Scholarship. This scholarship is named
after a former dean of the College and is awarded to a rising
junior or senior majoring in the advertising and public relations
sequence.
Kyle Via, Brittany Ryan, Sammy Rutkowski
and Matthew Seal were recognized as the new Student
Advertising Federation officers for 2007-08.
The
Student Advertising Federation welcomes students from a variety
of disciplines who are interested in advertising. SAF creates
opportunities for students to forge relationships and make
connections with students of similar interests, professors,
and industry leaders. |
