Four J-school faculty members receive Mortar Board teaching
awards
Charles Bierbauer, dean of the College of Mass Communications
and Information Studies, and professors Jim Haney, Harvie
Nachlinger and Lisa Sisk were awarded Mortar Board Excellence
in Teaching Awards for 2006-07.
Mortar Board, Inc. is a national
honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished
ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and
service. Individual Mortar Board members nominate faculty
for the award.
Dean Bierbauer, nominated by advertising student Elizabeth
Martin, teaches Media and Government. Haney was nominated
by Morgan Harris, a public relations major. He teaches Writing
for the Mass Media and Public Relations Writing, and serves
as advisor for students in the Advertising/Public Relations
sequence.
Nachlinger, a broadcast faculty member, was nominated by
Amanda Alpert, a broadcast journalism major. Public relations
student Leslie Hardwick nominated Sisk, who teaches public
relations writing, principles and campaigns.
They joined 22 other USC faculty recipients Nov. 9 at a
presentation ceremony and reception in their honor. The 2006-07
Mortar Board members hosted the event.
