Four J-school faculty members receive Mortar Board teaching awards

Charles Bierbauer, dean of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies, and professors Jim Haney, Harvie Nachlinger and Lisa Sisk were awarded Mortar Board Excellence in Teaching Awards for 2006-07.

Mortar Board, Inc. is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for distinguished ability and achievement in scholarship, leadership and service. Individual Mortar Board members nominate faculty for the award.

Dean Bierbauer, nominated by advertising student Elizabeth Martin, teaches Media and Government. Haney was nominated by Morgan Harris, a public relations major. He teaches Writing for the Mass Media and Public Relations Writing, and serves as advisor for students in the Advertising/Public Relations sequence.

Nachlinger, a broadcast faculty member, was nominated by Amanda Alpert, a broadcast journalism major. Public relations student Leslie Hardwick nominated Sisk, who teaches public relations writing, principles and campaigns.

They joined 22 other USC faculty recipients Nov. 9 at a presentation ceremony and reception in their honor. The 2006-07 Mortar Board members hosted the event.
