MAYMESTER CLASSES STILL OPEN

Do you want to travel for Maymester but you missed the deadline to sign up? It’s not too late!

There are a few spots left in the following courses:

  • As part of Dean Bierbauer’s Media and Government class you'll take a one-week trip to Washington where you will meet some of the nation's key opinion leaders and will visit the White House, the Supreme Court, Congress, and national political party headquarters. The course number is Jour 563M Section 1. Read more about past trips: 2007 Photos and Comments and One Student's Travel Journal.
  • To enroll in the Atlanta Public Relations Experience, please contact Professor Sisk at lisasisk@sc.edu.  This class travels to Atlanta for one week of the three-week May session. You will visit public relations professionals at CNN, The Georgia Aquarium, the Carter Center, Coca-Cola, the High Museum of Art, among many others.

These classes both have additional fees above the cost of May tuition.

Hurry! Maymester begins May 12. Don't miss this opportunity to experience one of these unique  opportunities.

If you are interested in staying on campus:

  • Want to find your voice as a journalistic storyteller? Then register for this Maymester Class: Narrative Journalism, Jour. 563, Section 4, with Professor Cecile Holmes. You will learn the basics of telling stories across multiple media platforms from a master storyteller who's written hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles and two books. You will read and review the work of expert storytellers, while working on your own stories. Moreover, you get to do all this at Newsplex, the state-of-the-art newsroom of the College of Mass Communications and Information Studies. Newsplex is located on the campus of SCETV.
  • Dr. Andrea Tanner is teaching Visual Accounts: Using Multimedia to tell a Compelling Story. There are no tests or long lectures!  Instead, you will use a video camera to shoot and edit video and tell a story for TV and the Web.  This class is open to all majors, but register NOW to secure your spot!  Space is limited. The course is listed as J563M; Section 3.

If you are not yet an upper division student, e-mail Lauren Welch in student services and she will make sure you can register.
