Panel
to address issues African-American women face in the media
Dr. Shirley Staples Carter, director of the University of
South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communication,
will participate in a special panel discussion as part of Celebrate
Women's History Month at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 30 at the
Richland County Public Library, 1431 Assembly St. The panel
discussion is open to the public.
Led
by SCETV’s P.A. Bennett, the panel will offer
a local
perspective of the experiences and challenges African-American
women face working in the media.
Other panelists include Carolyn Sawyer, chief executive
officer and chief strategist of The Tom Sawyer Company; Dana
F. Tucker, publisher and editor-in-chief of How We Live Magazine;
Judi Gatson, anchor at WIS News 10; and Vernessa Pendergrass,
public affairs director at WWDM 101.3 FM.
A book signing by Carolyn Sawyer, panelist and author of
Forget the Glass Slipper, Build Your Own Castle: 10 Traits
of a Million Dollar Business will follow. |
