J-School
students pick up some gold and silver at ADDY Awards
The American Advertising
Federation of the Midlands honored seven current J-School
students with ADDY awards at its annual awards ceremony,
including two Gold winners.
Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation,
the local ADDY Awards is the first of a three-tiered,
national competition to recognize and
reward creative excellence in the art of advertising. Local
gold winners are eligible for district-level ADDY
competition.
Advertising
major Jordan Smith won a Gold ADDY for an ad created in her
JOUR
558 Advanced Creative Strategy class. A senior from
Crozet, Va., Jordan designed an ad for BIC Lighters and won
the Gold in the Consumer or Trade Magazine Ad Campaign category
of the competition. See

Kailey Waring, a visual communications major, won a Gold
for her design of the 2007 Parents' Survival Guide in the
Editorial Design/Cover category. Kailey is a sophomore from
Ramstein, Germany. See

Two other visual communications students also won awards
in the Editorial Design/Cover category. Meredith
Ray, from Mt. Pleasant, won a Silver Award for
"Prankster," a cover for one of the Friday Football
Blitz sections of The Daily Gamecock. See

Sinclair's
Garnet & Black cover design "The Fall of Student Protests" also
won a Silver ADDY in the category. See

Megan picked up a second silver ADDY
for her design "Watergate:
35 years later." This entry was in the Editorial Design/Spread/Feature

the Interactive Media/Web Site category, senior Julia Anderson
won a silver for her redesign of the 2007 Garnet
& Black Web Site. Julia is a visual communications major
from Mt. Pleasant. See design>
Ben Buchanan, a senior visual communications major from
Rock Hill, won a Silver for a newspaper ad, "Do It With
Your Phone." He was responsible for the photography
and the graphic design. See

Elizabeth Wilson brought home a silver ADDY in the Newspaper,
Ad/Insert category for a series of four ads "Do It On...." Elizabeth
is a junior visual communications major from Fountain Inn. See
