Wiggins named Outstanding Campus Adviser by SPJ (National)

I have had the pleasure of working with Professor Wiggins through the University of South Carolina’s chapter of SPJ, the very chapter he brought back to life.

In his quiet manner, Professor Wiggins has inspired me, as well as the rest of the board, to work towards growing our chapter into the preeminent organization on USC’s campus.

For us, Professor Wiggins has been a monumental leader, one that I will try to emulate in the future. What is significant to note is how Professor Wiggins acts as a guide, a facilitator and a thought-provoker. He challenges our chapter to take initiative and to think bigger and bolder in regards to our programming and projects.

Professor Wiggins enables us to carry out our plans rather than his, and if they do fail or falter, as some have, he helps us to understand why and suggests the best course of action to take. He regularly sends insightful written updates to the board throughout the semester: motivating us when needed, steering us back on course if we have strayed, and above all else congratulating us on our successes.

I think it is Professor Wiggins' passion for journalism that propels his dedication to SPJ and to his students. Above all else, Professor Wiggins is a journalist, dedicated to his craft and the profession at large.
