from 2006 Bateman Team national winners
Beth Dickey, faculty adviser
Eight
talented coeds, one corporate sponsor, one not-for-profit
client, and two campaigns that could
be implemented across the nation
and around the world equal two National Champions. This is what pubic
relations students from the School of Journalism
and Mass Communications at the University of South Carolina
accomplished this year.
Jeff Ranta, professional adviser I could not be more proud of our teams.
They did a wonderful job and
set a new precedent for success. Both teams came together and delivered
awesome performances.
Alisha Cooper, The Merlin Group The Bateman Competition boosted my confidence and
taught me the many difficulties in professional
PR. Thanks to this experience I am ready for
the real world. USC’s
Journalism School once again proved its
academic excellence.
Jennifer Davidson, The Merlin Group I had no idea what
to expect being
a sophomore on
a senior level team. I knew I had to
step it up. I
was stretched farther than I could have
ever imagined.
A National Championship is just icing on
the cake.
Anna Fox,
Can Do Carolina Bateman team was
an opportunity
to apply the skills that
I learned in the coliseum
(The USC School of Journalism
and Mass Communications
is located in
Carolina Coliseum,) to
the professional world.
Public Relations
is about building and
creating relationships
and being able
to do that with my team
was a highlight of this
experience. The challenge
to create something
unique and long lasting
taught me many life-long
lessons.
Betsy
Heckert,
Can Do
Carolina Representing
the University
in this competition
was definitely
the high
point of
my collegiate
career. I
learned skills
that I will
carry in my professional
life and was
able to experience
public relations
in the best
way possible.
Melissa
Hensley,
Can
Do Carolina The Bateman
Competition gave me more opportunity
to live and learn
than any other program I’ve been involved in. It
pushed me to my limit
and beyond every day, but I would
do it all again in a heartbeat.
Ashley
Moore, Can Do
Carolina The Bateman Team
at the University
of South Carolina
is an excellent opportunity
for Public Relations
students to gain real
world experience
while still in school.
It has provided me
with the education
and confidence necessary
to excel as a public
relations practitioner.
I feel that Can Do
Carolina is a unique
campaign that really
can make an impact
on Habitat for Humanity
in the future.
Kat Salters, The Merlin Group Bateman was an enriching experience. I learned
so many things about myself and gained confidence
to accomplish many tasks. The skills acquired
throughout the competition are unprecedented.
Not only did we have an amazing team, but we
had amazing advisers. We all represented USC
gracefully and scholastically with pride and
professionalism. Taking home the National Championship
solidifies our program at the School of Journalism
and Mass Communications and it most definitely
was one of the best days of my life. I’ll
never forget this.
Jean Triskett, The Merlin
Group The Bateman competition was definitely
the best experience of
my college career. It
was a challenge, but fun and rewarding
at the same time. It has prepared
me for a professional job and has
opened new doors for me. On top of
everything else, I made friendships
of a lifetime with the girls on my
team. I couldn’t
have asked for a better
ending to the best four
years of my life.
