Speak Out
Libby Krah
Outstanding Public Relations Senior
Dr.
Tom Klipstine on Libby's strengths and skills:
For the past two years I have known Libby not just as a public relations
student but more importantly as a leader in our student organizations,
PRSSA and IABC.
In 2007 Libby received the Mike Witkoski memorial scholarship
for outstanding achievement which was established by the
South Carolina chapter of the Public Relations Society of America and
is presented annually to a PRSSA member who has demonstrated a working
knowledge of public relations and has exhibited leadership skills.
In addition, Libby has been the driving force behind the establishment
of our South Carolina student chapter of the International Association
of Business Communicators. Through her efforts our chapter has received
national accreditation and we are now recognized by USC as an official
organization supported by student government.
As a student of public relations Libby has simply demonstrated the skills
and the knowledge that I know will make her an asset to the profession
and I truly wish her all the best.

Speaks Out:
Why did you choose USC?
The South Carolina Honors College sparked my interest, and when I came for a visit, I had "that moment" that you always hear about but never really expect to happen. I realized USC was where I wanted to spend the next four years of my life. And coming from Pittsburgh, I wasn't complaining about the weather!
Why public relations?
I enjoy communicating with people and finding out what they think. If I don’t work in communications, I am destined to be the annoying person next to you on a long plane trip!
Favorite/most beneficial class?
Campaigns was a great class. We applied all the knowledge and skills we've learned in the public relations track to a real-life project. It was also really helpful to have a group of senior public relations majors who could share ideas and experience.
What will you miss most about college?
Having Fridays off!
And you won't miss?
The 15-minute sprint from the Coliseum to the BA for consecutive classes!
What are you really passionate about?
I am passionate about excelling and succeeding in my endeavors and making and maintaining fulfilling relationships.
Has there been a "defining moment" or
significant event in your college experience?
Developing and writing my senior thesis for graduation with honors from the South Carolina Honors College has been a major undertaking this year. Becoming so involved in this project gave me a chance to practice public relations, and preparing the thesis gave me new insight into the value of theory and research.
What do you hope to do after graduation?
I plan to begin my career at an agency.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for other
students in your major?
Get involved with IABC & PRSSA! These organizations offer a lot
of great opportunities to make professional contacts locally and nationally,
a chance to get to know your classmates and instructors, and useful information
about scholarships and internships.
Any parting words or something you'd like to say
to your SJMC family, or anyone else, before you head out the
door?
I just want to thank the people who encouraged and supported me through my time at USC. The advice and aid of special professors and friends made my experience even more meaningful and inspired me to achieve more.
