Adam
Speaks Out:
Why did you choose USC?
It was cheaper and there was more to write about in
the state’s
capital than the state’s cow pasture.
Why print journalism?
I wrestled with English, history and journalism majors. I
chose journalism because I thought it would give me more opportunities
when I graduate.
Favorite/most beneficial class?
Magazine article writing with Professor Ernie Wiggins. He
challenged my writing every day and made me want to be a better
writer.
What will you miss most about college?
Free football tickets.
And you won't miss?
Eating hot dogs and cereal three times a day.
What are you really passionate about?
I’m passionate about everything I do, which is why I
don’t sleep much.
Has there been a "defining moment" or
significant event in your college experience?
Working for The Gamecock has defined my
college experience. I got so wrapped up in it that
my first thought in any situation
at college was “how
can this be a story?”
(Read Adam's most recent columns in The
Gamecock, U.S.
News fails to find Carolina's
true value and One
class can make a big difference.)
What do you hope to do after graduation?
Get married in May and start a job at a newspaper. I’d
like to eventually write about politics, maybe even cover
a presidential election.
Do you have any advice or words of wisdom for other
students in your major?
Get involved as much as you can. Write for The Gamecock.
Any parting words or something you'd like to say
to your SJMC family, or anyone else, before you head out the
door?
Get out of the Coliseum, require students to write for The
Gamecock and offer a class about interviewing.
