Bretzius, Allison Faye Collins: 2000, BA, public relations,
works in public relations for Pools Window and Door Inc in Newport
News, Va. She was married on Nov. 22, 2003.
Day, Kristen Dianne Karig: 2002, MMC, is the special events
manager at Moffitt Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute
comprehensive cancer center in Tampa, Fla.
Hudson, Ashley R.: 2001, MA, writes, “Since graduating
from the University of South Carolina I have been following my
greatest passion, which is traveling the world. So far I have
made it to six continents. One day I would like to write a book
about all my travels. I will leave the U.S. again in August 2003
to live in Nakatsu, Japan, a small town on the island of Kyushu.
This will be my second year as a teacher in Japan. I have plans
to attend law school in the fall of 2004. I hope to study international
law and foreign policy.”
Huxford, Sarah: 2002, MMC, is the director of university
relations at Charleston Southern University. Sarah is responsible
for creating and implementing an integrated communications program.
This includes overseeing the marketing, advertising, media relations
and publications functions at the university. Right now, she says
she is spending most of her time working on a graphic standards
manual and meeting with various on-campus departments in an attempt
to convince them that all university communications need to be
consistent and professional.
Jawski, Greg: 2002, MMC, finished building the New York
division of Ego Trip Magazine and serving as editor and then moved
on to join the TowersGroup in August. The TowersGroup is a public
and financial relations reputation management firm in New York
City. Greg provides media relations and controlled communications
to the firm's mutual fund, executive compensation and professional
services clients.
Kelly, Kristin Renee: 2002, MMC, is a communications specialist
for Powder River Energy Corporation in Sheridan, Wyoming.
She recently earned recognition as a professional communicator
in a national program offered by the Council of Rural Electric
Communicators, which is affiliated with the National Rural Electric
Cooperative Association (NRECA)in Washington, D.C. She is the
first in Wyoming to achieve this recognition.
McKittrick, Janet: 2001, MMC, is an MPRI Department of
Defense contractor working in strategic communications for the
United States Army Installation Management Agency. She began working
for the Centralized Installation Management Initiative in November
2001. She became the strategic communications team leader as the
initiative grew into the Transformation of Installation Management
Task Force. She has worked closely with the Office of the Chief
of Public Affairs, Office of the Chief of Legislative Liaison,
Office of the Assistant Chief of Staff for Installation Management
and the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and
Environment to successfully communicate the mission, goals and
objectives of the new installation management structure. She developed
an information campaign plan for official activation of the Installation
Management Agency and is building an integrated marketing communications
plan for the agency, developing public affairs and marketing materials,
coordinating conferences and comanaging the Web site.
Moore, Jennie: 2002, BA, advertising, is an assistant
account executive on the American Express and BP accounts at Ogilvy
& Mather in New York. Moore, Kristen: 2003, MA, is a program
coordinator and assistant director of legislative affairs for
the South Carolina Department of Transportation. She coordinates
efforts to plan, develop and execute a variety of agency-wide
special events, including news conferences, employee workshops,
seminars, highway dedications and visits by U.S. congressional
delegates. Kristen also assists with media relations and communications,
conducts public policy research and works closely with the South
Carolina General Assembly to monitor and develop transportation
legislation.
Myers, Kathryn: 2000, BA, PR, is development coordinator
for the South Carolina Wildlife Federation (SCWF). She oversees
all fund raising through special event coordination and grant
writing. Myers also produces a membership newsletter, oversees
media relations and coordinates all graphic design projects. She
joined SCWF in October 2001, after spending a year working at
a high-tech media relations firm.
Nash, Sarah: 2002, MMC, is teaching sixth-grade language
arts, social studies, and Values at Trinity School in Buckhead,
Ga.
Owens, Ashley: 2002, MMC, is an account executive for
Goddard Claussen Porter Novelli in Washington, D.C. Ashley works
in the public affairs division primarily on health care and governmental
accounts. Most recently, she has been working on National Women’s
Health Week and Check-Up Day, a national campaign for the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
Pruitt, Kenny: 2000, MMC, is a public affairs specialist
for the United States Air Force. After two years of working in
technology public relations, Kenny merged his public relations
experience and his military background when he began working for
the Air Force as a civilian in June 2002. His duties include media
relations, community relations and internal communication as it
relates to the Air Force mission. Outside of working with the
military, Kenny provides independent counsel for clients with
business plans ranging from tourism to technology.
Shelley, Kim: 2002, MMC, is a communications specialist,
writing and PR, for the South Carolina Hospital Association. Kim
is also state coordinator for SC SAFE KIDS, which is under the
association.

professor in the mass communication department at Kuwait University.
Beckham-Morris, Amy Catherine: 1991, BA, broadcast, is
the morning drive reporter for all-news WTOP Radio in Washington,
D.C. She was awarded the 2002 National Edward R. Murrow Award
for Best Spot News for coverage of “The Beltway Sniper”
in October 2002. Amy has recently been appointed co-anchor of
morning drive’s first hour – from 4 a.m. until 5 a.m.
– and continues her duties as a spot news reporter.
Bombard, Radhika: 1995, BA, news editing, has been named
director of marketing and public relations for Group Nine Marketing,
a full service agency specializing in health care marketing. Group
Nine is based in Louisville, Ky., where Radhika lives with her
husband and son.
Bradshaw, Tara: 1998, MMC, is a spokeswoman at the Treasury
Department handling tax policy, budget and economic policy. She
is involved with the Junior League of Washington and will chair
its public relations committee for 2003-2004. She is a member
of the executive board of the Women’s Committee at the National
Museum of Women in the Arts and recently chaired the silent auction
committee for the museum’s Spring Gala.
Coulson, Carrie Lynn: 1999, BA, is an investment
associate and team leader for Evergreen Investments, Wachovia
Corp. in Charlotte, N.C.
Davis, Jeff: 1993, BA, advertising, has joined The Adams
Group as Media Director. The Adams Group is a Columbia, S.C. based
strategic marketing communications firm.
Jones, Charles, Jr.: 1991, broadcast, transitioned to
public relations in 1999 when Wragg & Casas Public Relations,
the largest independent fullservice firm in Florida, hired him
as a senior account executive in its Miami headquarters. He specializes
in broadcast media relations, public affairs, crisis communications,
issue management, government relations and marketing publicity
for clients that include U.S. Sugar, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood
International Airport, Montenay Power Corp., The Graham Companies
and the city of Fort Lauderdale.
Kimberly Buckner Land: 1998, BA, is marketing director
for the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. She earned her
MBA in 2002. On Nov. 1, 2003 she married Jason Land (BS
'98) in Spartanburg, S.C. Jason is the Electronic Banking
Manager for Arthur State Bank.
Unumb, Lorri Shealy: 1990, BA, broadcast, has been appointed
director of legal research and writing for the George Washington
University Law School in Washington, D.C. Lorri earned her J.D.
from the USC School of Law. Before joining the full-time law school
faculty, she served as senior litigation counsel with the Civil
Division of the U.S. Justice Department. An Honor Program attorney,
she specialized in appellate practice, constitutional litigation,
and class actions with the Office of Immigration Litigation. During
her tenure at Justice, Professor Unumb taught writing and trial
advocacy at the National Advocacy Center and served as a member
of the Civil Division Hiring Committee for the attorney general’s
Honor Program. She also taught immigration law in the USDA Evening
Graduate School.

Curl, Mark: 1985, BA Ad/PR, has joined McDaniels Automotive
Group, a luxury dealer in Columbia and Charleston, as marketing
director. Mark had spent 13 years with the local ABC television
affiliate where he was senior account manager. He lives in Irmo
with wife, Wendy, and daughter, Haley.
Foley, Adrienne Greer: 1988, BA, was recently named president
of the Tennessee Society of Healthcare Marketing and Public Relations
for 2004. Since 1999, Adrienne has worked in account management
for the healthcare segment of Daniel+Douglas+Norcross, a marketing
and consulting firm based in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Jenkins, R. Vance: 1987, BA, Ad/PR, has been named a Carnegie
Fellow at Middlebury College in Vermont. During the next four
summers, Jenkins will study literature and the teaching of writing
at Middlebury’s campuses in Vermont and Oxford, England.
Jenkins teaches English and journalism at both the high school
and college level. He is a Fellow of the National Writing Project
and a voting member of the National Council of Teachers of English.
Keaton, David P.: 1983, BA, Ad/PR, Is supervising producer
of the series “What Should You Do?” airing on the
Lifetime Television network. Strong, Willard: 1981, BA, broadcast,
was recently named senior writer for PowerSource magazine, a quarterly
publication of Santee Cooper. He assumes these duties in addition
to his position of media relations specialist at the state-owned
electric and water utility in Moncks Corner, S.C.
Watkins, Raymond: 1988, BA, broadcast, is director of
public relations and outreach for Central Carolina Technical College
in Sumter, S.C.
Williams, Wm. Andrew: 1989, BA, Ad/PR, is co-owner of
Wilder Farm Inn, a 20-room bed and breakfast 10 miles from Stowe,
Vt. Williams has served as an aide to U.S. Sens. Strom Thurmond
and Paul D. Cloverdell. He received his MBA in 1994.

Dameron, Patrica Stevens: 1977, BA, Ad/PR, has been named
vice president, member growth and care, with Meeting Professionals
International in Dallas. MPI has 18,000 members worldwide. Patricia
oversees the European and Canadian operations as well as all membership
programs.
Dulin, Carl J.: 1976, BA, news editing, is counsel to
the New Castle County Council in Wilmington, Del. Prior to law
school, Carl served as the public relations director for the defense
lobby in Washington, D.C. He was also a major in the Delaware
Army National Guard, serving as commander of a public relations
unit.
Emanuel, Jerry: 1976, BA, broadcast, recently completed
a television documentary spotlighting his great grandfather's
effort to retake Charleston during the Civil War. Lt. Jonathan
Manly Emanuel was an engineer aboard the ironclad Keokuk as it
and eight other ironclads sailed into Charleston harbor on April
7, 1863, to demand surrender of the city. In what Jerry calls
his “normal” life, he is manager of Mayo’s Suit
City in Columbia. During his 15-year media career, he worked for
the Mutual Broadcasting System and the NBC Radio Network in New
York and as sports director at WOLO-TV in Columbia.
Howard, Kathryn Carson: 1978, MMC, has accepted a teaching
position with Richland School District 1 in Columbia. Kathryn
had a 30-year career in corporate communications and public relations
prior to accepting this position. She lives in Blythewood with
her husband, James W. Howard Sr.
Hunt, R. Michael: 1979, BA, news editing, who has covered
the Milwaukee Bucks for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel since 1997,
has been promoted to the sports columnist for the paper. Hunt,
who has worked as a reporter for both The Greenville News and
the now defunct Record in Columbia, is originally from Greenville,
S.C. He lives three blocks from Lake Michigan with his wife and
12-year-old son.
Patrick E. Tyler: 1974, graduate of the School of Journalism
and Mass Communications, took over as London bureau chief for
The New York Times in November. He previously was the paper’s
chief correspondent in Washington, D.C., and has run its bureaus
in Moscow and Beijing.
