The Office of Student Disability Services. The annual awards
recognize University employees who are nominated by students

Doug had his paper "Building community online:
a twice-weekly's experience extending its reach with a citizen-based
news site" accepted
for presentation at the National Newspaper Association convention
in St. Paul, Minn., Sept. 26-27.

Kornegay
Van has received a $2500 grant from the Office of Research
and Health Sciences through the Magellan Scholar Program
to develop an informational video and strategic communicaton
plan to promote community-based orphan care in Malawi, Africa.

Ken
Campbell
Ken was recognized at a special dinner
by the Columbia Urban League for his almost 20 years as
editor of the State of Black South Carolina, the Urban League's
annual publication. Ken also joined other chapter authors
and Urban League president J.T. McLawhorn as guests on WIS-TV
10's Awareness public affairs show on Sunday.

Wei
Ran was selected as an editorial member for The Open
Communication Journal, an online peer-reviewed journal for
communication science and studies. He is on sabbatical
until July 2008.

Bruce
Konkle
Bruce had a refereed research
paper, "Scholastic Journalism's Connection to Other
High School Curricular Areas", accepted for the AEJMC
Scholastic Journalism Division's mid-winter meeting. Also,
Konkle recently had an article published in Quill & Scroll's
bi-monthly newsmagazine.

Augie Grant
Augie
has been elected to a two-year term on the Broadcast Education
Association (BEA) Board of Directors, beginning April 2008.
Grant, who has been a member of BEA since 1984, has previously
served as head of the BEA communication technology division
in the 1990s and as a staunch supporter and proponent of various
broadcast education initiatives.

John Besley
John has been selected as one of ten " promising
junior" science communication researchers who have been
invited to present papers at the "New Agendas in Science
Communication" mini-conference, University of Texas-Austin,
Feb. 22-24, 2008. Besley's paper will also be published by
Erlbaum/Taylor Francis as part of a "New Agendas" series.
The recognition includes a travel grant.

Mortar Board honor society. He was nominated for the award
by a public relations student in his graphic production class.
