Each year, a major corporation gives the 200 college chapters of the American Advertising Federation a real world advertising assignment. Student teams conduct research, create ads, make media recommendations and develop a public relations and sales promotion plan for this client. They summarize their work in a plans book and then make an audio/video "pitch" to a panel of judges.

The competition begins on the district level. There are 15 districts in the nation and ours is District Three which is comprised of Virginia, and North and South Carolina. Our district competitors include the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, the University of Virginia, Virginia Commonwealth University, North Carolina State University and other fine programs. The winning team in each of the 15 districts then advances to compete on the national level. 

We have won the district competition 18 times and have placed in the national top four positions on six occasions, including one national win.
