MASTER OF MASS COMMUNICATION
GENERAL PROGRAM OF STUDY

To earn the M.M.C. degree, a student must complete a minimum of 12 graduate courses (36 credits) including the following:

1. The M.M.C. core:

  • JOUR 701 – Research Methods in Mass Communication
  • JOUR 705 – Integrated Communication Principles
  • JOUR 706 – Media Law
  • JOUR 762 – Issues in Mass Communication Management
  • JOUR 771 – Media Economics
  • JOUR 777 – Practicum in Mass Communication Management

    Students will be expected to work with organizations or agencies in their chosen area of interest within mass communication to fulfill their professional capstone practicum experience.

2. Three graduate courses (nine credits) of directed electives:

  • MKTG 701 – Marketing Management
  • MGMT 718 – Management of Human Resources
  • MGMT 770 – Organization Behavior or JOUR 710 – Organizational Communication

3. Three graduate courses (nine credits) of elective credits as approved by the student’s Academic Advisor and the Associate Director for Graduate Studies and Research.

4. The M.M.C. comprehensive examination consisting of:

  • a five-hour written examination based on the M.M.C. core
  • a second-day written examination based on the elective hours and practicum-related experience
  • an oral defense of the second-day written examination.
